Top 5 electric scooters with largest boots

Scooters are inherently very practical and a large part of that comes down to the underseat storage space. Electric scooters are even more so, due to the tighter packaging allowed due to their tree-hugging powertrain. To give you an idea of just how big the storage area on some of today’s electric scooters are, we have compiled a list of the 5 largest boots on an electric scooter in the Indian market today. Just for reference, India’s bestselling scooter - the ubiquitous Honda Activa - has an 18 litre underseat storage area.

Simple One 30 litres

The Simple One’s 30 litre boot is the smallest on this list and that should give you an idea of just how large the storage space is on some of these electric scooters. While the Simple One is not as popular or well-known as the other entrants on this list, it does have a 30 litre boot which earns it a place on this list.

TVS iQube 32 litres

When the iQube first launched the two variants on sale had only 17 litres of underseat storage space. TVS has now reprofiled the boots of all the variants of the popular e-scooter (except the base iQube 2.2kWh) to increase capacity to a healthy 32 litres. The base iQube 2.2 has a marginally smaller boot volume at 30 litres, the same as the aforementioned Simple One.

Gen 2 Ola S1 lineup 34 litres

With the move to the Gen 2 platform, all of Ola’s electric scooter lineup has the same 34 litre boot capacity. That is actually marginally down on the Gen 1 Ola models that had a marginally bigger 36 litre boot capacity. Love them or hate them, the Ola electric scooters were the first EVs to offer such a large boot in the market.

Ather Rizta 34 litres

Now you might argue that since the Rizta and the Gen 2 Ola models have the same capacity, the Ather should be tied with Ola for third place. However, the Ola scooters have a shallower boot which means you can't close the seat with  with a full-face helmet in the boot where with the Ather Rizta’s deeper storage area you can. The Ather also has a small cubby just aft of the boot where you can comfortably store knick-knacks like your smartphone, wallet, etc. In our opinion, it is this attention to detail that tilts the scales in the Ather’s favour.

River Indie 43 litres

The saying “there’s no replacement for displacement” comes to mind when speaking of the Indie’s cavernous 43 litre storage area. This is the largest storage space on any Indian electric scooter bar none. The practicality-first Indie also has a pair of panniers and a top box available as an accessory, that will further increase storage capacity.
