Yamaha’s Chennai plant caters to the demands of both domestic and export markets

Since starting operations, the Chennai facility has played a key role in Yamaha’s production strategy, catering to both domestic and international markets. The plant currently produces models such as the RayZR 125 Fi, Fascino 125 Fi and Aerox 155 Version S. Additionally, it exports the FZ series, the Saluto range, and the Alpha scooter. Over 30 percent of the plant’s total output is designated for exports.

Itaru Otani, chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, said the Chennai factory is a strategically important part of Yamaha’s global network, contributing through skilled workforce, operational integration and adherence to global quality standards.

Spread over 177 acres – 109 acres for Yamaha operations and 68 acres for co-located vendor partners, the facility follows a ‘One Factory’ model aimed at improving efficiency and supply-chain integration. The plant has been upgraded over time to align with Yamaha’s premium product strategy, focusing on small to midrange-engine motorcycles and scooters.

With India’s emission standards evolving, Yamaha has positioned the Chennai facility as a global export hub. The plant supports product deliveries to markets in Europe, Latin America, ASEAN countries, and others.
