Launched at a starting price of Rs 11.50 lakh, the Kia Carens Clavis is a facelifted version of the regular Carens MPV, albeit with a more premium slant. It introduces comprehensive design updates on the outside, such as revised headlights reminiscent of the EV6 facelift, redesigned front and rear bumpers, new 17-inch alloy wheels, an updated rear lightbar, and more. Inside, the Carens Clavis sees subtler changes on the design front and much bigger ones in terms of features. Let's take a look at everything on offer in the Carens Clavis variant line-up.
Kia Carens Clavis variants explained
Petrol and diesel engine options
The Kia Carens Clavis retains the same engine and gearbox options as the standard Carens: a 115hp, 1.5-litre petrol with a 6-speed manual; a 116hp, 1.5-litre turbo-diesel with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic; and a 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol with 6-speed iMT, 7-speed dual-clutch auto, or 6-speed manual gearbox. The latter configuration is unique to the Carens Clavis, as the standard Carens does not offer the 6-speed manual with the turbo-petrol motor. The Carens Clavis is available in seven trim levels – HTE, HTE(O), HTK, HTK+, HTK+(O), HTX and HTX+.

Kia Carens Clavis: Which variant should you buy?
Judging by the features on offer, the Carens Clavis HTX trim offers almost every creature comfort expected of a premium MPV. It's also available with a diesel engine, which would net you a hefty 19.54kpl (claimed) mileage and decent performance in both city and highway conditions, albeit for a rather pricy Rs 19.50 lakh. If you’d like a more spirited driving experience and a lower upfront cost, the HTX turbo-petrol (Rs 18.40-18.70 lakh) is the better option, and if you want an even lower price, the HTK+(O) turbo-petrol (Rs 16.20-17.70 lakh) is a great alternative, sans some features.
For budget-oriented buyers willing to forgo creature comforts, the Carens Clavis HTK strikes a good balance and is available with all three engine options. However, those looking for second-row captain seats can only turn to the top-spec HTX+ trim of the Carens Clavis. Level 2 ADAS is also exclusive to the Carens Clavis HTX+, so buyers who want every possible safety feature should go for that. In terms of rivals, the Carens Clavis falls in the price range of the Toyota Innova Crysta, Innova Hycross, and Rumion, as well as the Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Ertiga.
All prices ex-showroom, India.
