Kia Carens Clavis exterior design

Triple-pod LED headlight units, 17-inch alloy wheels

The 2025 Clavis is essentially a Carens facelift, and it sits on the K2 platform as the standard Kia four-wheeler. A new light bar links the inverted L-shaped DRLs, while the triple-pod headlights resemble those of the Kia EV5. Additionally, faux-metal trim, finished in silver, is placed on the bumper’s chin.

In profile, the overall silhouette is similar to the Carens MPV, but plastic cladding along the doors and wheel arches gives the new model it an SUV-esque look. The Kia Clavis gets larger 17-inch alloy wheels with a new design, though the door handles lose their chrome finish. At the rear, sharper LED tail-lights are connected by an all-new light bar, with more changes including a spoiler-mounted stop lamp and a faux metal trim on the redesigned bumper.

Kia Carens Clavis interior features

Panoramic sunroof, ‘Boss' mode, ventilated seats

Both six (captain seats in the second row) and seven seater configurations are on offer. The dashboard receives a blue-and-beige theme with twin 12.3-inch screens: a touchscreen and a multi information driver's display. Interestingly, this bigger infotainment unit offered on the top Clavis HTX trims lacks wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the lower variants' 8-inch unit includes them. A switchable touch-sensitive panel under the central air vents handles both media and climate controls. The front seats are ventilated, but only the driver’s seat is electrically adjustable.

Other Carens features on-board are wireless charger, eight-speaker Bose sound system, air purifier, panoramic sunroof, drive modes (eco, normal and sport), paddle shifters (DCT exclusive), AC vents and USB ports for second and third rows, Boss mode for co-driver's seat (like the Hyundai Alcazar) and one-touch tumble-plus-fold feature for second row’s left-side seat.

Kia Carens Clavis safety features

Level 2 ADAS, 360-degree camera

The Carens Clavis comes with a Level 2 ADAS suite and 360-degree camera setup, safety features that were missing from the Carens. Its features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keep assist, and rear cross-traffic alert proved useful during our Clavis review. Further, six airbags, ABS, hill-start assist, TPMS and all-four disc brakes are standard safety equipment.

Kia Carens Clavis engine-gearbox options and mileage

Familiar set of petrol and diesel engines

Kia Carens Clavis mileage and powertrains
1.5 turbo-petrol 1.5 turbo-diesel 1.5 petrol
Power (hp) 160 116 115
Torque (Nm) 253 250 144
Transmissions 6MT / 6iMT / 7DCT 6MT / 6AT 6MT
ARAI-claimed mileage (kpl) 15.95 (6MT and 6iMT) / 16.66 (7DCT) 19.54 (6MT) / 17.50 (6AT) 15.34 (6MT)

As the table above shows, the new Clavis carries over Carens' 1.5-litre four-cylinder combustion engines, including 115hp-naturally aspirated (NA) petrol, 160hp-turbocharged-petrol and 116hp-diesel. But unlike the Carens which is now limited to MT and iMT pairings only, the Clavis adds DCT and AT units as well. CNG, however, is still not an option which rivals like the XL6, Ertiga and Rumion provide.

Fuel efficiency

The Clavis diesel with a maximum 19.4kpl claimed mileage is the most fuel efficient, followed by turbo-petrol's 16.66kpl and NA petrol's 15.34kpl. To know how the Carens Clavis mileage figures compare with its Maruti and Toyota MPV rivals mentioned earlier, click here.
