16 Mahindra SUV launches by 2030

0

Mahindra will launch as many as nine new internal combustion-powered SUVs by 2030. The brand has also announced that it will introduce seven new-born electric vehicles in the Indian market in the same timeframe. Of the nine new ICE models, three will be mid-cycle updates for existing offerings (including the recently launched XUV 3XO), and six will be all-new SUVs.

The automaker’s vast SUV portfolio in India has been buzzing with new launches every few months, with the latest being the XUV 3XO, the deliveries for which will start on May 26.

Nine new Mahindra ICE SUVs: what will they be?

Despite committing a chunk of its investment to the future born-EV line-up, Mahindra has not lost sight of its bread-and-butter SUV models. We reported late last year about the brand’s big plans to reinforce its internal combustion engine-powered SUV portfolio.

The much-anticipated Thar 5-door, likely to be called the Thar Armada upon debut, will be one of the first of six all-new SUVs from Mahindra. The Thar 5-door will share many of its underpinnings and powertrains with the Scorpio N and the Thar 3-door. It could get as many as three engine options.

The Scorpio pickup, shown as a concept last year, will most likely be one of the new model introductions and go on sale in South Africa first, followed by other international markets before it comes to India.

Mahindra is working on an all-new U171 platform that will spawn the all-new Bolero SUV, along with its seven-seat derivative. Apart from these two, sources tell us that over half a dozen “top hats” that include more SUV body styles and pickups are being planned on this platform.

While other future Mahindra SUV launches in the internal-combustion-engine portfolio are unknown, we expect the two mid-cycle refreshes hinted at by Mahindra to be for the XUV700 and the Scorpio N. The XUV700 went on sale in August 2021, and the Scorpio N was launched in India in June 2022.

Mahindra hasn’t shared a launch timeline for these refreshes. The brand recently trademarked XUV 7XO recently, and going by how the XUV300 was renamed as XUV 3XO, there are chances that the XUV700 facelift may be called XUV 7XO. Mahindra has also trademarked the XUV 1XO and XUV 5XO names. However, there are no details available about these models.

Seven new Mahindra BEVs incoming

The homegrown auto major is betting big on its upcoming born-EV portfolio. In India, Mahindra will start introducing the born-EV SUVs built on the INGLO platform by this year’s end or early next year. The models that were previewed earlier, such as the Mahindra XUV.e8, the XUV.e9 coupe and the BE.05 SUV, will be among the initial vehicles to go on sale from the company’s born-EV line-up.

Apart from the born-EV range, Mahindra is also working on a Thar EV which was previewed as a concept last year.

The vehicle battery sizes will be in the 60-80kWh range and capable of fast charging up to 175kW, which would charge the battery to 80 percent in under 30 minutes, depending on the model. Mahindra says the 80kWh battery should return a driving range of about 435km to 450km under the WLTP cycle. As far as motors go, the new electric SUVs based on this platform will have both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options, again depending on the model.
