New Suzuki Swift debuts at Tokyo Motor Show

0

Suzuki has taken the wraps off the all-new fourth-gen Swift at the Tokyo Motor show. While the brand still continues to call it a concept, the car looks production ready and will come to India next year as the new Maruti Swift.

  • New Swift gets fresh looks inside out
  • Model shown in Tokyo has ADAS too
  • India to continue with pure petrol powertrain

The Swift concept was revealed via a few images by Suzuki some days ago and is getting its first public viewing at Tokyo.  The styling is unmistakably Swift but a closer look reveals of many new design cues. The nose is a bit flatter with more sharper-looking headlamps placed at each corner. The familiar LED DRLs with projector setup on the concept look familiar and again, production ready. The grille has been restyled and is larger and rounded on the edges, replete with gloss black and dark chrome finish. The Suzuki logo now sits above the grille, just under the bonnet. The front bumper gets fresh cuts and creases and the car overall looks much sportier than before.

The Swift on display at Tokyo also has ADAS, however it remains to be seen if we get this feature in India. Maruti at the moment does not offer ADAS on any of its models in the Indian market.

Speaking of cuts and creases, there’s a strong character line that runs across the side on the new Swift and it merges neatly with the headlamps. The roofline and glass house shape is quite similar to the outgoing car but the doors are new, especially the rear door that now gets the handle at the conventional location and not on the pillar.

At the back, the styling details get an update with more angular cues, new looks for the bumper and the tailgate. The badging at the back says Hybrid but we are told that India will continue with the pure petrol powertrain on the new Swift.

On the inside, the car looks quite familiar once again with most of the interior bits shared with the Baleno and the Fronx including the free standing infotainment system, steering wheel design and the HVAC switches.

Expect more details on the new Swift to be revealed soon.
