The road transport sector is a very important part of the economy and the growth of any country. It is one of the largest employers of man power and contributes a large share to the Gross National Product (GNP).

The sector is responsible for the transport of goods and people from one place to another. It plays a very important role in the economic development of a country.

In India, the road transport sector is the second largest after the railways. It consists of a network of about 3.3 million km of roads, which includes National Highways (NH), State Highways (SH), Major District Roads (MDR) and village roads.

The sector is also responsible for the registration of vehicles, issuance of driving licenses and collection of taxes.

The total number of registered vehicles in India was about 841 million in the year 2020. This is expected to grow to about 1.03 billion by the year 2022.
