Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire CNG

This year, Maruti Suzuki has added CNG variants of two of its extremely popular models – Swift and Dzire. Both cars share the same platform, powertrain and have largely similar designs.

Read on to find out how the Swift S-CNG and Dzire S-CNG differ from each other.

Swift CNG vs Dzire CNG: variant line-up and price

Maruti Suzuki launched the Swift S-CNG in August and its prices start at Rs 7.77 lakh for the VXi variant and go up to Rs 8.45 lakh for the ZXi variant. Similarly, the Dzire S-CNG, launched in March, is also offered in two VXi and ZXi variants and is priced at Rs 8.23 lakh and Rs 8.91 lakh, respectively.

The S-CNG variants of the Dzire are Rs 46,000 costlier than the equivalent variants of the Swift. The petrol-powered variants of Maruti Suzuki’s popular hatchback are also Rs 46,000 cheaper than the compact sedan.

Swift CNG vs Dzire CNG: powertrain

Both the Swift and Dzire are offered with a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 90hp and 113Nm of torque. In CNG mode, both produce 77hp and 98.5Nm of torque. However, despite the Dzire being bigger and 10kg heavier than the Swift, it is more fuel efficient as it returns 31.12km/kg, whereas the Swift manages 30.90km/kg. Both get a 55-litre CNG tank.

While the petrol-powered Swift and Dzire are offered with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT gearbox, the S-CNG variants are only offered with the former.

Both cars feature dual interdependent electronic control units (ECU) and an improved injection system for better air-fuel mixture in the engine. To handle the extra weight of the CNG tanks, Maruti Suzuki has tuned the suspension on the Swift and Dzire.

Swift CNG vs Dzire CNG: visual differences

Both Swift CNG hatchback and Dzire CNG compact sedan look identical to their petrol counterparts, and both are based on Maruti Suzuki’s Heartect platform.

At the front, the Swift sports a single chrome slat in the hexagonal grille, whereas the Dzire gets a twin chrome slat treatment. While the Swift gets L-shaped housing for the fog lamps, the Dzire features boomerang-shaped chrome accents in the fog lamps. The Swift gets its rear door handles in the C-pillar, whereas the Dzire has pull-out handles on the door. Both also get different alloy wheel designs.

Swift CNG vs Dzire CNG: which should you get?

The real difference between the two is the rear design, which results in extra boot space in the Dzire. The compact sedan also benefits from slightly better fuel efficiency compared to the Swift.

If you prefer getting a hatchback due to its slightly more compact size, then the Swift will be an ideal choice. However, given the extra boot space and fuel efficiency, the Dzire makes a strong case for itself.
