Yamaha EMF electric scooter unveiled in Taiwan

0

Yamaha has unveiled the new EMF electric scooter in Taiwan. The e-scooter is built in collaboration with Taiwnese battery giant Gogoro, this being their second product after the Yamaha EC-05, which was launched in 2019.

The big talking point is that the new Yamaha EMF utilises Gogoro's battery swapping technology. This enables users to swap a depleted battery at Gogoro's expansive network of swapping stations in Taiwan. The system effectively enhances the e-scooter's range without the need to wait till the battery is charged at a fast charging station.

To reiterate, Gogoro has been collaborating with a number of electric vehicle manufacturers of late. Hero MotoCorp, for instance, has partnered with Gogoro to set up  battery swapping stations in India.

Coming to the specifications, the Yamaha EMF is powered by a 7.6kWh (10.2 hp) mid-mounted motor that sends power to the rear wheel using a chain drive. The company claims the scooter can accelerate from 0-50kph in 3.5 seconds.

As far as the design is concerned, the scooter looks functional, with largely flat surfaces all around. The front apron is minimal with a stacked LED headlight at its centre. You see a similar layout for the tail lights as well.

The rider sits on a long and flat, single piece seat with space to store a few items in between the rider’s legs. In terms of features, there's all LED lighting, digital instrumentation with turn-by-turn navigation and last parked location.

The chassis is suspended by a telescopic fork at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. Braking duties are taken care of by discs at the front and back with CBS.

The Yamaha EMF will go on sale in Taiwan by March 2022.
