Renault India has crossed the 1,00,000 unit export milestone, which, according to the company, demonstrates the competence of India’s design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities.

“India is a very important market for Renault Group and we have always laid concerted focus on building capabilities and supporting the Make-in-India initiative,” said Venkatram Mamillapalle, country CEO and MD, Renault India Operations. “Our expansion strategy is focused on further strengthening our presence in India, driving growth momentum across our product portfolio and continuing to play an important role in making Indian products popular and aspirational in the international markets.”

Renault India began manufacturing operations in Chennai in 2010. It commenced exporting made-in-India vehicles in 2012 with the Duster followed by the Kwid in 2016. Presently the carmaker’s export portfolio comprises of the made-in-India Kwid, Triber and Kiger which are shipped to 14 countries across Asia and Africa.

Renault’s last new model for the Indian market was the Kiger compact SUV which arrived early last year. The carmaker’s line-up currently houses the ageing Duster, the entry-level Kwid, the seven-seat Triber and the aforementioned compact SUV.

Coming to new products for the market, the carmaker’s next launch is likely to be the much delayed Triber turbo-petrol. While currently available with a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre petrol engine, Renault’s compact three-row vehicle is expected to gain the 100hp 1.0-litre turbo-petrol mill from the Kiger.
