Top 25 cars, SUVs sold in India in November 2021

0

The passenger vehicle segment in India recorded total sales of 2,45,262 units in November, registering a 14.3 percent decline as compared to last November. The decline was primarily on account of the semiconductor crisis that has severely impacted supply chain and production for several manufacturers.

Among the top 25 cars sold last month, it was Maruti Suzuki which dominated sales yet again with as many as 11 models in the top 25 list, with Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra making up the remaining majority.

  • Maruti Suzuki commanded a majority 55 percent volume
  • 7 out of top 10 selling cars were Maruti Suzuki models

Maruti Suzuki dominates Top 10 sales list

The Maruti Suzuki WagonR has emerged as the best-selling car of November with 16,853 units sold. The hatchback even registered a year-on-year growth of 3.67 percent. The Maruti Suzuki Swift followed in second position with sales of 14,568 units, although it saw a year-on-year decline of 21.25 percent. The Maruti Suzuki Alto and the Vitara Brezza took up third and fourth positions with 13,812 units and 10,760 units sold, respectively. The only non-Maruti to make it to the top 5 was the Hyundai Creta, that saw sales of 10,300 units.

The remainder of the top 10 list was yet again dominated by Maruti with the Baleno, Eeco and Ertiga taking up sixth, eight and ninth positions, respectively. The Maruti Baleno sold 9,931 units, the Eeco saw sales of 9,571 units and the Ertiga sold 8,752 units. Tata Motors managed to bag seventh position by selling 9,831 units of the Nexon. Kia rounds up the top 10 list with the Seltos, that sold 8,659 units.

With 11 models making it to the top 25 list, Maruti Suzuki commanded a majority stake (55 percent) in the total passenger vehicles sales in India in November. The Maruti Suzuki Dzire (8,196 units), the newly-launched Celerio (5,968 units), the S-Presso (3,661 units) and the XL6 (3,280 units) were other models that made it to the top 25 list.

Hyundai, Tata, Mahindra make up the remaining majority

Apart from Maruti’s 11 models, Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra have emerged as the best of the rest. While Hyundai and Mahindra had four models in the top 25 list, Tata Motors had three.

Apart from the aforementioned Creta that managed to bag a place in the top 5, other Hyundai models that made it to the list were the Venue, the Grand i10 Nios and the i20. The Venue was the third most sold compact SUV in November with 7,932 units, good enough for twelfth position on the list. The Grand i10 Nios and i20 hatchbacks came in at sixteenth and twentieth positions respectively with 5,466 and 4,391 units sold each.

As for Tata Motors, the Tiago came in at eighteenth position, while the newly launched Punch came fourteenth. The Tata Punch sold a total of 6,110 units while the Tiago sold 4,998 units. Mahindra, another homegrown manufacturer, had the Bolero, Scorpio, XUV300 and XUV700 in the top 25 list.

The Bolero was the highest selling Mahindra in November with 5,442 units, giving it seventeenth position. Meanwhile, the XUV300 (4,005 units), Scorpio (3,370 units) and XUV700 (3,207 units) made up the twenty-first, twenty-third and twenty-fifth positions respectively. It’s interesting to note that the total sales of Tata’s top three models (20,939 units) were more than what Mahindra could manage with its top four (16,024 units).

The other carmakers that made it to the top 25 list include Kia and Toyota. Apart from the Seltos that got into the top 10 list, Kia also managed a nineteenth position with the Sonet (4,719 units). Meanwhile, the Toyota Innova Crysta sold 6,300 units in November giving it thirteenth position.

SUVs, hatchbacks popular body styles in India

Given the country’s obsession for SUVs, it’s no surprise that SUVs were the most sold body style last month. The top 25 list had as many as 11 SUVs from across the compact and midsize SUV segments. Hatchbacks were the next most popular body style with nine models across the entry-level, midsize and premium hatchback segments. There were three MPVs too, while the Maruti Suzuki Dzire was the only sedan and the Eeco was the only van to make it to the list.
