Updated Aprilia SR 160 spotted with new design, more features; launch soon

0

The Aprilia SR 160 has been spotted in an updated guise, complete with a new design and an LED headlight. It is expected to launch in the coming days, with a small price hike over the existing scooter, which costs Rs 1.08 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

  • Will also get digital instrumentation

  • Slated for a festive season launch

  • Mechanicals expected to remain unchanged

A test mule of the SR 160 was spotted a few months ago with a fully digital instrumental cluster, and this will now be added to the production scooter as part of its update. The display seems to be derived from the SXR 160’s and could feature Bluetooth connectivity. This latest sighting shows the scooter seemingly in production-ready form, indicating that an official launch should be just around the corner.

As for the design, the front apron has been redesigned and now sports a V-shaped LED headlight that greatly modernises the ageing scooter’s overall appearance. The handlebar shroud has also been tweaked, now featuring a pair of scoops on the central portion. It continues to house the front indicators, which don’t appear to have received the LED treatment.

Another major change is to the seat – or rather seats – because the updated SR 160 appears to sport a unique split-seat design, and there seems to be more sitting area for both rider and pillion, compared to the earlier single-piece seat.

We expect the updated SR 160 to remain mechanically unchanged, which means the 11hp, 11.6Nm air-cooled 160.03cc single-cylinder engine will continue. Suspension is in the form of a conventional telescopic fork and monoshock and the SR gets a front disc brake.
