2022 Skoda Karoq facelift revealed

Skoda has taken the wraps off the 2022 Karoq facelift today. Four years since its launch in 2017, the Skoda Karoq has received its first mid-life update, with revised styling, new and sustainable materials, improved engine efficiency and new technology.

2022 Skoda Karoq facelift: what’s new?

As part of the exterior cosmetic updates, the Karoq facelift gets slimmer, rearranged LED lights at the front and rear, a wider hexagonal grille and body-coloured bumpers. The facelifted SUV also gains a longer, body-coloured rear spoiler, a front apron with air curtains, an aerodynamically optimised fuel tank and new alloy wheel designs available in 17-, 18- and 19-inch diameters. Skoda claims the changes contribute to a 9 percent reduction in drag to a Cd of 0.30, making the Karoq one of the most aerodynamic cars in its class.

The new Karoq can also be selected with an Eco pack, which adds sustainable materials to the car’s cabin, such as vegan, leather-effect seat covers made from recycled materials. The door trim on some models is made of ‘Suedia’ (microsuede).

2022 Skoda Karoq facelift: powertrain options

Globally, the Karoq will be available in three variants, SE Drive, SE L and the range-topping SportLine, and will have five engine options to choose from – three petrol and two diesel units, all turbocharged.

The petrol range comprises an entry-level 110hp 1.0-litre, a 150hp 1.5-litre and a 190hp 2.0-litre engine. Both diesel options are 2.0-litre units, producing either 116hp or 150hp. While all engines are available with the choice of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic transmissions, the 1.0-litre engine gets only manual.

2022 Skoda Karoq facelift: features and technology

In terms of features, even the entry-level SE Drive variant has been updated with an 8.0-inch digital driver's display as standard to replace the manual dials seen in the previous Karoq as well as a host of travel assist systems, including front assist, pedestrian protection, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also included, with optional wireless phone charging.

The SE L variant further adds features like a larger, body-coloured spoiler, 17-inch wheels and external Aero trim that, Skoda says, reduces air turbulence. SportLine models are equipped with LED matrix headlights and have Skoda’s Black Pack as standard, which adds black trim for the window frames, roof rails, rear diffuser, wing mirrors and 18-inch alloy wheels.

2022 Skoda Karoq facelift: will it come to India?

The pre-facelift Skoda Karoq came to our shores as a fully imported model in limited numbers. As of now, there is no news on whether the updated SUV will come to India. Skoda is currently focusing on its local operations and having found fair success with the Kushaq, the company is now readying the Slavia sedan for a launch here in the first quarter of 2022. The company is also readying an India launch for the Enyaq electric vehicle next year.
